Can You Remember Any Life Changing Moments?
Can You Remember Any Life Changing Moments?
I am referring to those moments that impacted you to the point where you decided to take a particular path in life. Think about this.
These are the moments when you believe in something to such an extent that you make it a life governing principle. For example, you ‘go for it’ as a life or career choice. Belief is what drives all of us to achieve what we achieve in life. Perhaps you are not even aware of what you believe in or how you came to believe it.
I heard the story recently of someone who was listening to a radio play. He was so captivated by the program that he said, ‘I must go to the studio where they are recording this and become involved in radio theater’. To his consternation he discovered the broadcast was actually a rebroadcast of a program made about 50 years prior! He was so impacted by the radio media that radio became his great love. He has built a career and life around that radio moment. He truly believed in the power of radio to enable people (like himself) to be part of a world that only the mind can truly perceive.
God gave us imagination and the power to believe.
Ask any person who you would like to emulate and they will tell you that there was a moment in their life when they believed in something so significant that they could picture it in their creative minds. They were convinced of its significance for their life. They knew by faith and belief that they could reach it, accomplish it.
Try revisiting those moments in your life when you discovered a belief about yourself, your life, your future. Compare the belief at that moment with what you believe today.
Don’t recognize any moments like that? You have them. They may be buried somewhere in your past. You may have given them up because of the power of negative criticism.
We lose consciousness of our beliefs when others tell us that our beliefs don’t mean anything. Pull out the old diary and read it. You will most likely find those ‘belief’ moments in the midst of its pages.
Sadly most do not hold firmly to believing in themselves and what they truly can be or even are. They hear only the voice of criticism. The worst critic is usually ourselves. Most listen to a negative voice and cannot hear the affirming voice without great effort and affirmed discipline. Belief gives the power to hear the affirming voice and to find the right direction.
Prisons are filled with persons who believe they are victims. Most will tell you they are in prison ‘only because they were caught’ and deny responsibility for whom they have become. The few who focus on discovering belief change their lives and become a different kind of person and harness belief to transform the community in creative ways.
There are more people outside of prison than in prison who resign themselves to being the victims of their environment. Belief initiates the path forward toward creative achievement.
Belief is the most powerful force in the universe.
Believing in something that is true gives us the energy and power to change the world. Belief moves us from mediocrity to excellence. The ‘excellence’ arrives because of the passion to fulfill the belief. Rarely is any achievement of excellence the result of a reward that may be tied to it. It has always been this way. It always will be this way.
Believe in little and you will become little.
The Christian life is based on developing our capacity to believe in very powerful forces. They are good forces. They are found in our God given minds. These forces move us from the ancient view where the planets revolve about us to the reality that we move within the God created universe.
Belief enables us to discover God outside us, around us, beyond us. Now we are beginning to talk about transforming lives and seeing the power of God. Start down the road of belief and you will not want to turn back. At least, not if you want your life to blossom with the vision of limitless opportunity – like the cosmos.
